Welcome

God's Country Community Ministries is a mission station serving communities across Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Our parish began when seven United Methodist churches in Grand Marais, McMillian, Germfask, Engadine, Hulbert, Newberry, and Paradise came together in shared ministry.  Since then, the ministry has grown beyond its original parish roots. Today, we welcome mission teams from across Michigan and beyond who join us each summer to help share God's love through outreach ministries in these seven communities.  As we continue this work, we warmly invite you to be part of it.

Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you.

       Our History

The parish was formed out of necessity during the 1960s and 1970s, when just two pastors served seven churches across five counties. The vision for the parish was first encouraged by Pastor Audrey Dunlap, Rev. Ralph Edwards, District Superintendent John Grenfell Jr., and Field Worker Rev. John Huhtala. Through many meetings and years of discussion, that vision gradually took shape.

In September 1980, all seven churches approved the plan. Then, in 1983, the name God's Country Cooperative Parish was chosen through a formal vote. By the end of 1985, the parish had established its identity and structure, including a birthday, name, purpose statement, newsletter, Advisory Committee, Church and Community Worker, and Parish Director.

In 2024, we changed our name to God's Country Community Ministries. As the ministry has grown, we have become an independent organization that partners with all denominations while continuing to carry out the same mission.

Our office is now located at the Dunlap Center, 6545 S. M-123, Newberry, MI 49868.

As we continue to grow, we look forward to expanding our ministry in many ways with the support of our mission teams and generous donors.
