Stores and Restaurants
While staying with GCCM they are many things to be done. Outside of the workday teams can venture into town to look at shops, buy food for their groups and get icecream.
Local Grocery Stores
Within Newberry, there are two small grocery stores where teams will be able to buy groceries. The two stores are Mac's Market and Rahilly's IGA. For late-hour purchases, there is a Family Dollar and a Dollar General.
Restaurants
While the hours are limited there are a few restaurants in Newberry including Timber Charlies, Ice Cream Bandits, Seder's Pizza, Zellar's, Subway, and Mcdonald's.
Shops
For our shoppers, there are a few quaint shops in Newberry with many more shops located in Paradise, Sault Ste. Marie, Grand Marais, and Munising.
Tourist Destinations
In the duration of the VIM team's time with GCCM, they are given the opportunity to take either a half day or a full day to explore the area. While there are many options these are some of our favorites!
Test the Waters
The U.P. is a land full of waterfalls that you can go explore! Some of the many waterfalls include Tahquamenon, Sable, Scotts, Alger, Horseshoe, Miners, and Wagner. You can also head south to Kitch-iti-kipi to see the largest natural spring on this side of the Mississippi!
Meet some Mammals
Within a short drive from the center get acquainted with the cuddle puppies right off M123 or visit the bears at Oswald's Bear Ranch. With a further drive take time to explore the Garlyn Zoo Wildlife Park.
Check out large ships
Learn more about the waters of Lake Superior by taking a look at the shipwreck museum on Whitefish point or head over to the Soo Locks to see the freighters go through.
In the Winter
Winter teams can work with one of the local dog sledding companies and enjoy a nice ride or see the upper Tahquamenon falls covered in the snow while snowshoeing.
Explore the shoreline
Drive to the northern border and explore trails along pictured rocks national lakeshore. Some places to visit include Sable falls, Log slide overlook, Au Sable lighthouse, Shipwreck tours, and boat tours.
Rock Hunting
Explore the Superior lakeshore to find a variety of cool rocks including agates and yooper lite rocks.
